The Neighborhood

Located to the north of the city centre of Rome, the Quartiere Flaminio is an affluent and fashionable residential neighborhood, with plenty of artistic and cultural amenities, sports grounds, bars and restaurants. Art lovers can indulge in a trip to the brilliant Maxxi Museum of Modern Art which was designed by the late Zaza Hadid and opened in 2010. The museum exclusively shows 21st century art and is one of Europe's leading contemporary galleries. Nearby is the Auditorium Parco Della Musica, which is worth a look around for its stunning architecture, even if you haven’t got a ticket to one of the many events to be hosted there. Sports fans may wish to visit the imposing Stadio Olimpico, which was first opened in 1932 as part of a complex honoring the fascist leader of Italy, Benito Mussolini. A later incarnation of the stadium hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics and today the stadium hosts Rome’s two largest football clubs, Lazio and Roma.

For a lunchtime snack, be sure to explore the selection of miniature sandwiches at Mondi by the Milvian Bridge. Afterwards, stop by Neve di Latte for some of the best ice cream in the city, and some of the most original flavours, including cinnamon. In the evening, enjoy a delicious and elegant seafood dinner at the wonderful Casa Coppola, with it’s tasty menu and friendly service. Alternatively, you can sit down for a meal at L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, where you can sample delicious real Neapolitan style pizzas at very reasonable prices. For an aperitivo drink in the evening or a late night tipple, head to the Pink Panter, close to the Maxxi Art Museum, for an authentic Italian beer bar with very reasonable prices. Alternatively, right in the south of the Flaminio area, the Hotel Locarno bar offers drinkers a superbly high class experience, with cocktail waiters creating magical concoctions before your eyes.
